Take to Heart was written as a sing-a-long for our small Lutheran church in Queens, Sure Foundation, for a church service. The recording features little sounds from our (my wife Emily and I) apartment in NYC. A year ago I wasn’t even dating the woman I’m married to, so a lot has changed! One of the changes has been moving my life in a big converted loft in Brooklyn to Emily’s little apartment in Manhattan. It’s been good to simplify and economize our lives through the moving process. It also forced me to better appreciate the little things that I have in my life– the possessions and objects–and the interesting sounds they make. I hope to make an album this year of my recent songs using sounds from our apartment. I hope it will be interesting to everyone… to us it will probably feel like an audio scrap book of our first apartment.

In honor of this kid-like song...My niece thinking about swiping.

Lyrics:
Take to Heart
All these words
I have solemnly declared

Take to Heart
All these words
I have given you today

So that you may command your children
To obey all the words of the Law.

(Chorus)

They are not just idle words for you
They are your life

By them you will live long
In the land, you’re crossing the river to hold
They’re not just idle words
They are your life

(Chorus)

From Deuteronomy 32:45-47
45 When Moses finished reciting all these words to all Israel, 46 he said to them, “Take to heart all the words I have solemnly declared to you this day, so that you may command your children to obey carefully all the words of this law. 47 They are not just idle words for you—they are your life. By them you will live long in the land you are crossing the Jordan to possess.”
