In its first workshop, Jessica Cermak and Joie Bauer performed as the lovers. This piece was directed by Emily Clare Zempel and developed by Ms. Zempel and Ms. Cermak. Music was composed by Jonathon Roberts with James Hall (trombone) and Matthew Talmage (percussion) joining him for the workshop performance. Complimenting the performance was live painting of a mural reacting to the text by painter Linda Serrone Rolon.

Following the performance was a talk by special guest author, Carey Wallace, author of The Blind Contessa’s New Machine. Ms. Wallace spoke on the unique qualities of love letters and what makes Song of Songs timeless. Audience members were also encouraged and given time to write their own expression of love to someone special in their life.
